Nowadays it is hard to imagine the modern laboratory practice without a laboratory information system. But what sort of system is best? What processes must the system automate? What problems must it solve? Analyzer Manager

Analyzer Manager software is designed for the integration of the laboratory analytical equipment with laboratory/medical informational systems. The point of the integration is the automatic formulation of the task to the analyzer, automatic recording of the results into the informational system and also performing of many other tasks of data exchange (quality control, image acquisition, control of the analyzer’s work, etc.).

More than 100 models of laboratory analytical equipment work through Analyzer Manager. The software is able to work with serial medical laboratory informational systems and individually developed software products.

Nowadays all the laboratory analytical equipment can be divided into four main groups according to the type of the integration with the informational systems:

Single-tasking analyzers.

Most hematological and urinary analyzers perform each research separately, and have the ability to connect to the external barcode scanner. Laboratory worker scans the label with the primary tube and lets the analyzer to get the material for research. The analyzer compares the barcode with the result and then sends it to the LIS. (Laboratory Information System)

Thus, laboratory worker work is simplified, and it should not take any further action either in the analyzer or the system. A worker of the laboratory makes the minimum action that is needed to make the research, while the results are automatically assigned to the program. Also from most of the hematological analyzers there is a possibility to download the histograms.

Two-way automatic exchange. Laboratory worker puts biomaterial from the label on the spinner (or a tripod) analyzer, without thinking about what kind of cell he should choose. During the operation, the machine scans each vial and requests the system about the patient and what kind of researches should be carried out. After the completion of setting the results are loaded into the system. It is the ideal scheme of work because the human factor is reduced to its minimum and the productivity of the analyzer is highly incremented.

Handmade-mass exchange. In this case, the work passes through the file import / export. In the system the laboratory worker notes the positions that he puts into the analyzer, presses the button “upload the analyzer”, selects the needed unit from the list of his department and indicates the place where the export file should appear. Then selects in the import function in the analyzer software and indicates the location of a previously created export file. After that in the device’s software a list of samples and researches that are necessary to be carried out appears. Laboratory worker arranges them according to the arrangement by the default of the analyzer software, or makes handmade adjustment. Results uploading takes place in reverse order. This scheme works a little harder and human factors can affect the accuracy of the results only at the stage of putting the samples into the analyzer, the process of setting targets for each sample and comparison of the results are carried out automatically.

Just uploading of the results. Most devices of the semi-automatic class don’t have the physical possibility of integration with the informational system or it will not be effective in general laboratory process, but in any case we are talking only about automatic downloading of the results. Laboratory worker before staging manually indicates the machine code for each sample, and also indicates the researches that should be done. After the process is finished the device uploads the data into the system.

In any of the cases that are described above automation of the work of data exchange between the informational systems and analytical equipment leads to:

  •  A significant decrease of the influence of “human factor” on the results of laboratory tests.
  •  The increase of productivity of the analyzer’s and staff’s work.

Analyzer Manager software works with any (including an individually developed) informational system.
